U.S. dollar ticks up

NEW YORK, June 17 (Xinhua) -- The U.S. dollar increased in late trading on Tuesday.

The dollar index, which measures the greenback against six major peers, added 0.84 percent to 98.821 at 3:00 p.m. (1900 GMT).

In late New York trading, the euro lost to 1.1479 U.S. dollars from 1.1580 dollars in the previous session, and the British pound declined to 1.3428 dollars from 1.3596 dollars in the previous session.

The U.S. dollar bought 145.37 Japanese yen, higher than 144.60 Japanese yen of the previous session. The U.S. dollar advanced to 0.8170 Swiss francs from 0.8128 Swiss francs, and it was up to 1.3645 Canadian dollars from 1.3560 Canadian dollars. The U.S. dollar added to 9.5496 Swedish Kronor from 9.4695 Swedish Kronor.
